The word “Gospel” means good news, especially good news of victory. Later in Christian tradition, “Gospel” came to mean the good news of our salvation (or victory) in Jesus Christ. Still later, it came to be associated with the books about Jesus – the Gospels according to Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Can we share the good news of God’s victory with our life? With our works? With our words?

 Dolly Parton is beloved in American life because of how she is able to sing out the truth through the songs she writes and sings, the poverty she helps to eliminate, the books she gives to kids, and the deep joy and delight she has brought to many types and stripes of people. All the while, Dolly (who is very spiritual) speaks openly about her own spirituality and connection to God. She points to the good news of God in a stunning way. And if Dolly can do it… maybe we can do it, too.
