COVID-19 Update 5/1/2020

Dear ACC Family,

As we continue this journey through the wilderness, I want to continue to keep you apprised of how our church leaders are prayerfully and faithfully discerning a way forward. Following the guidance of Governor Holcomb, the Indiana region and the General church, we will continue to worship virtually through May. Your Worship Committee, Board, and Ministry Co-op have begun meeting to consider the precautions we would need to take to resume worship and other activities in our building, and I have assembled a Reopen Steering Group who will be working to craft a detailed and practical plan for a phased reopening of our building. While no specific date is set yet, we will likely open the office and resume some small group activities before we resume in person worship.

As our state reopens, there is still a recommendation for people 65 and older to remain home, as well as a caution against reopening children’s activities. These recommendations would result in many of our congregants remaining home if we were to resume onsite worship too soon. We are committed to be a church of welcome and inclusivity, so we are already exploring ways to continue our virtual worshipping and fellowship opportunities once we return to our building. We have applied for a “Connect Through Tech” grant with the Center for Congregations which would support us in purchasing the equipment and software that will aid us in this process.

I know many of you are anxious to be together physically again, myself included. But it is important that we take the time and care to make sure when we do worship together again, we are not putting the vulnerable in our congregation, our families, and our community at risk. We are grateful for the technology which allows us to continue to worship and fellowship together. We are grateful to the members of our congregation who have served tirelessly on the front lines to care for others and keep us safe. Let us be a witness to Christ’s call to love and serve our neighbor as we continue to navigate our way forward in the midst of this pandemic.

Peace,

Danielle
